Crypto gambling glossary

Last updated: 2026-06-30 · live on-chain data, refreshed ~every 30 min

The crypto-casino world mixes gambling and blockchain jargon. Here are the terms that actually matter, in plain English.

On-chain & solvency terms

Proof of reserves — verifiable on-chain wallet balances showing what an operator holds (explainer). Hot wallet — the operator's online wallet that processes deposits/withdrawals. Cold wallet — offline storage for reserves. On-chain volume — value moved through an operator's wallets; only meaningful when internal churn and wash/treasury flow are excluded (which is why most trackers overstate it).

Fairness & game terms

Provably fair — a cryptographic scheme letting you verify a game outcome wasn't manipulated (explainer). RTP (return to player) — the % of wagers a game pays back over time. House edge — the casino's built-in mathematical advantage (100% − RTP). RNG — random number generator behind game outcomes.

Money & bonus terms

Wagering requirement — how many times a bonus must be bet before withdrawal (explainer). Rakeback / cashback — a % of wagers or losses returned. Sticky bonus — a play-only bonus removed when you withdraw. Max cashout — a cap on winnings withdrawable from a bonus. Stablecoin — a dollar-pegged crypto (USDT, USDC) that's the dominant casino deposit currency. TRC20 / ERC20 — the Tron and Ethereum token standards USDT runs on; TRC20 is cheaper and faster.

Network & wallet terms

Block explorer — a public website (Etherscan, Tronscan, Solscan) for reading any address's balance and transactions. Confirmation — a block that includes your transaction; casinos wait for a number of them before crediting. Gas / network fee — the cost to send a transaction; tiny on Tron/Solana, variable on Ethereum. Memo / destination tag — an identifier some deposits require; omitting it can strand funds. Wallet cluster — a group of addresses inferred to share one owner via common-input-ownership, the basis of attribution.

Market & risk terms

Net flow — deposits minus withdrawals over a window; balanced two-way flow is healthier than one-way (report). Coverage level — how complete our wallet mapping is for a brand; a reserve figure at low coverage is a floor, not a total. Wash trading — fake volume from addresses cycling funds to inflate activity. Exit scam — an operator vanishing with player funds; see neutral on-chain distress signals. KYC — identity verification, often required before large withdrawals.

FAQ

What is the difference between RTP and house edge?
They are two sides of the same number: RTP (return to player) is the percentage of wagers a game pays back over time; the house edge is the casino's advantage, equal to 100% minus the RTP. A 97% RTP game has a 3% house edge.
What does TRC20 mean for casino deposits?
TRC20 is the Tron token standard that USDT (Tether) runs on. USDT-TRC20 is the most popular casino deposit rail because it is fast (seconds) and cheap (cents or free), unlike USDT-ERC20 on Ethereum which costs more in gas.
